From the time of its inception, social media have seen magnificent growth in multiple fields. Soon it evolves from a personal communication tool to the most important component of modern business marketing strategies. It started between 1980 and 1990 when platforms like CompuServe and America Online introduced digital communication in the world, with email and real-time chatting.
The journey became more smooth in the early 2000s, with the emergence of platforms like MySpace and LinkedIn, where personal networking combined with professional connections.
In 2004, social media encountered its biggest milestone with the launch of Facebook. At first, this revolutionary app was designed for college students, but it grew rapidly and reached a broader audience. With the worldwide success of Facebook businesses soon recognized its potential and started creating brand pages and advertising campaigns on this platform and it continues growing rapidly.
Different marketing strategies started taking the lead, such as influencer marketing. Businesses started reaching a wider audience by collaborating with social media creators from different platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and others. The growth took a further turn after the integration of e-commerce features like Instagram Shopping and TikTok’s partnership with Shopify. And the process is still going with the continuous update of the digital world.
